Home Care Agencies in Montgomery County, PA: Your Complete Guide
10/13/2026
Montgomery County is Philadelphia’s largest suburban neighbor — and it’s part of the same CHC Southeast Zone that serves the city. Every Medicaid home care program available in Philadelphia applies in Montgomery County. The same MCOs, the same Participant-Directed Services, the same paid family caregiver pathway.
But Montgomery County families face a specific challenge: many don’t realize these programs apply to them. The association between “Medicaid home care” and “Philadelphia” is so strong that suburban families often assume the programs stop at the county line. They don’t.
What’s Available in Montgomery County
Community HealthChoices— personal care, homemaker services, respite, adult day, home modifications — all covered through the Southeast Zone MCOs (AmeriHealth Caritas, Keystone First CHC, PA Health & Wellness).
Participant-Directed Services— a family member can be hired and paid as the caregiver at $13.50–$18.00/hour, with all the same eligibility rules as Philadelphia.
ODP waivers— for adults with intellectual disabilities or autism.
Act 150— for adults 18–59 with physical disabilities who earn too much for Medicaid.
The Montgomery County Office of Aging
Montgomery County Office of Aging and Adult Services at (610) 278-3601 is the local Area Agency on Aging. They provide information, referrals, assessment coordination, and caregiver support — the same role PCA plays in Philadelphia.
The Suburban Misconceptions
In our experience at CareChoice, three misconceptions keep Montgomery County families from accessing programs they’re entitled to.
“My parent makes too much for Medicaid.” Long-term care Medicaid has different income and asset rules than standard Medicaid. A retired professional in King of Prussia on a pension and Social Security may qualify. Don’t assume —check through COMPASS.
“These programs are for city families.” The Southeast Zone was designed for all five counties equally. Your parent in Narberth has the same access as a family in Fishtown.
“We can handle this ourselves.” You probably can — for now. But PDS doesn’t replace family caregiving. It pays for it. The care stays in the family. The only thing that changes is someone gets a paycheck.
